DIVisions
Fish & Wildlife
Fish & Wildlife personnel work daily across a variety of diverse projects that aim to preserve and improve conservation areas across the territory. Managing vulnerable areas is a critical tool for safeguarding biodiversity. Maintaining ecosystem balance, preserving habitats, and building resilience to climate change remain in our daily focus. Maintaining water quality, conserving natural resources, and curbing the spread of diseases and pests is central to our mission.
Conservation Officers
Conservation Officers are responsible for enforcing a wide range of Seneca Nation laws as set forth by the SNI Constitution. These Officers not only promote public safety within the realms of hunting, fishing, and other outdoor recreation- but they also protect the community through patrol, surveillance, and daily public engagement.
Forest Management
The Seneca Nation Forestry Management Division aims to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the forests and grasslands across our Territory to meet the needs of present and future generations.
Youth & Outdoor Recreation
There are several department programs that run through the Summer that fall within our Outdoor Recreation Division. These programs are supported by the Summer Youth Interns that Conservation works with annually and supervised by the Outdoor Recreation Supervisor.
Chronic Wasting Disease
Chronic wasting disease (CWD) is a prion disease that affects deer, elk, reindeer, sika deer and moose. It has been found in some areas of North America, including Canada and the United States, Norway and South Korea. It may take over a year before an infected animal develops symptoms, which can include drastic weight loss (wasting), stumbling, listlessness and other neurologic symptoms. CWD can affect animals of all ages and some infected animals may die without ever developing the disease. CWD is fatal to animals and there are no treatments or vaccines.
